Activity Coordinator Mary Simnacher Retires From VGH Nursing and Rehab

Jessica Birker and Mary Simnacher stand by the plant donated in honor of Mary upon her retirement.   On Wednesday afternoon, May 26, Virginia Gay Hospital Nursing and Rehab hosted a reception to honor retiring Activity Coordinator, Mary Simnacher.  After 38 years of service to Virginia Gay, it was no surprise there was a standing room only crowd. “I worked as a nurses’ aide, then in materials and surgery both, and then I went down to PT.

The annual Outstanding Student recognition paid tribute to individuals in every academic program and learning center in a reception at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG GRADUATE AMY MEYER ON MISSIONARY PROJECT FOR SUMMER

Amy second from left sining with the Campus Crusade Band at Iowa State Amy Meyer from Garrison, a Vinton-Shellsburg 2007 graduate and Iowa State University Student, will be heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on a missionary project this summer.  The project is sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), an evangelism driven Christian organization.  While at Myrtle Beach Meyer will take part in ‘Evangelism on the Beach’ and share her faith by witnessing to high school seniors and college students on the beach as well as people she will be working with at her summer job in Myrtle Beach.

Area Resident Bill Keller makes trip to Haiti with Wings of Hope (4th fromthe left) “So how are things in Haiti?”  It’s I question I get asked frequently from friends familiar with my trips there.  The questions are heart felt and filled with genuine concern for my friends there.  It’s also a complicated question.  Valerie has asked me to write this story a number of times since the January earthquake.

  Megan Rickels has saved a statue of the Virgin Mary from a defiling, X-rayed an arm and a hand that were not attached to each other, and has been a member of a book club that has met monthly for eight years. She also finds time in her busy schedule as a mom with children ranging in grade level from Kindergarten to college freshman to serve on the Vinton-Shellsburg School Board, which (she may argue) is a mitigating factor in her propensity for attracting traffic citations.
